In its citation, the committee noted that the park is “a testimony to Sīma stone tradition of the Dvaravati period.” Located in the Udon Thani province of northeastern Thailand, Phu Phra Bat is famous for its striking rock formations, shaped by natural erosion over millions of years.

Aside from the rock formations, the historical park is also home to prehistoric rock paintings, ancient shelters, shrines, and Buddha images carved into the rock. Visitors will surely enjoy exploring the park’s scenic and natural beauty.

In addition to Phu Phra Bat, other World Heritage sites in the cultural category in Thailand include Si Thep Historical Park, Sukhothai Historical Park, Ayutthaya Historical Park, and Ban Chiang Archaeological Site.

Completing the list of eight World Heritage sites in Thailand are the natural sites: Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex, Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex, and the Thungyai-Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuaries.
