Highlighted in a July article, Lonely Planet places Siargao at the forefront of seven must-visit locations in the Southeast Asia region. Following the island on the list are Amed in Bali, Cao Bang in Vietnam, Khao Sok National Park in Thailand, Luang Prabang in Laos, Penang in Malaysia, and Gili Air in Indonesia.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Frasco expressed gratitude for the recognition . She stated, “The acknowledgment given to Siargao is a victory for the island and its people and a proud moment for the entire country.”

Before receiving this recognition from Lonely Planet, Siargao had already garnered acclaim from several international publications. In 2021, it was voted one of Asia’s best islands in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards and featured in Time Magazine’s list of the World’s Greatest Places .
