American Airlines is expanding its European routes next summer with five new options from its U.S. hubs. Starting March 30, 2025, the airline will launch a new daily flight connecting Chicago O’Hare to Madrid. On May 23, Philadelphia will see flights to both Edinburgh and Milan. By June 5, American will begin daily service from Charlotte to Athens, and a month later, Miami will have a new route to Rome.
These new flights will operate through summer 2025, with tickets available from September 9, 2024. American’s senior vice president, Brian Znotins, highlighted the success in these key markets. With the exception of Edinburgh, the airline already serves Athens, Madrid, Milan, and Rome from other U.S. locations.
American Airlines last flew to Edinburgh in 2019 but dropped the route during the pandemic when it retired its Boeing 757 and 767 fleet. The upcoming route reintroduces this connection, while the Madrid flight offers seamless connections to hundreds of destinations via American’s partner, Iberia. From Madrid, travelers can connect to popular European spots like Ibiza, Menorca, and Porto.
The expansion is part of a broader strategy , as American will also return to Copenhagen, Naples, and Nice from Philadelphia next summer. These routes were initially launched on a seasonal basis this year.
In addition, American Airlines is extending its Miami to Paris winter flight through summer and bringing forward the start dates for other key summer routes. Flights from Dallas-Fort Worth to Barcelona and Philadelphia to Athens will begin March 30, earlier than previously planned. Similarly, flights to Naples from Philadelphia will launch in May, a month ahead of schedule.
