Universal Orlando Resort has announced the opening date for its long-awaited Epic Universe theme park. The park will officially open its gates on May 22, 2025, just before Memorial Day weekend, marking the resort’s largest expansion to date.
Epic Universe will be the third and largest theme park at Universal Orlando, part of a 750-acre development. The resort currently includes Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, and a water park. The new addition is expected to more than double the size of Universal’s property in Orlando.
Epic Universe will feature five themed worlds. Among them are The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, and How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk. Karen Irwin, president of Universal Orlando, said the park will offer guests a vacation experience filled with thrills.
The new park is set to make a major impact on Orlando’s tourism scene. Theme park consultant Dennis Speigel predicts the park could draw more than 6 million visitors in its first year. The addition of Epic Universe will undoubtedly raise competition between Universal and Disney, the two biggest players in the Orlando theme park market. Disney has not opened a new park in Central Florida since 1998, leaving many wondering how they will respond.
Tickets for Epic Universe will be released in stages. Vacation packages and three-day tickets, which include one day at the new park, will be available starting October 22. Single-day tickets will be released later, and Universal Orlando passholders will get early access on October 24.
Guests at Epic Universe will enter through Celestial Park, a world filled with rides, restaurants, and access to the other four worlds. Each themed world offers unique experiences, including rides and attractions based on popular franchises like Harry Potter, Super Nintendo, and How to Train Your Dragon.
