Indian visitors to Singapore have crossed the 1 million mark as of October 31, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) reported. This milestone was reached with the arrival of Singapore Airlines flight SQ-421 from Mumbai, marking a notable boost for Singapore’s tourism sector. Indian tourist numbers hit the million mark two months earlier than in 2023, showing robust recovery in travel between the two countries.
Compared to the same period last year, the January to October arrival numbers reflected a 12% increase in Indian tourists. India currently stands as Singapore’s third-largest source market , contributing significantly to the city-state’s post-pandemic tourism rebound.
STB’s Regional Director for India, the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, Markus Tan, expressed excitement over the milestone. “Achieving one million Indian visitors two months earlier than in 2023 underscores Singapore’s appeal as a top destination for Indian travelers,” Tan stated, emphasizing the importance of Indian metros as key source markets.
Singapore’s popularity among Indian tourists can be attributed to the city’s well-connected travel options and diverse attractions tailored to multiple visitor segments. Sy Yen Chen, Singapore Airlines’ General Manager for India, reaffirmed India’s status as a vital market, noting that Singapore Airlines’ world-class service remains a top choice among Indian travelers.
MakeMyTrip, a leading travel platform in India, noted an 11% increase in searches for Singapore, which now ranks as the fourth most searched destination on their site. “Singapore’s dynamic offerings continue to captivate Indian travelers,” said Raj Rishi Singh, MakeMyTrip’s Chief Marketing Officer, adding that this milestone underscores India’s affinity for the destination.
Li Hongyi, Associate General Manager for Changi Airport Group, highlighted that India is currently the airport’s sixth largest market for passenger traffic.
