Marriott International is bringing its City Express brand to the U.S. and Canada as part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the midscale hotel market. Marriott acquired City Express from Hotels City Express last year and has seen strong growth in the brand across the Caribbean and Latin American regions.
In a statement, Diana Plazas-Trowbridge, Marriott’s senior vice president and global brand leader for select brands, expressed satisfaction with the brand’s growth. Marriott CEO Anthony Capuano also highlighted the brand’s performance during the second quarter, noting it had exceeded revenue expectations.
In the U.S., City Express has attracted significant interest from potential hotel owners and franchisees. Marriott expects to announce agreements and hotel openings in the coming months. Noah Silverman, global development officer for the U.S. and Canada, stated that the midscale product had received positive feedback from investors. The brand’s operational model is designed to be efficient, making it an attractive investment for those in the market.
City Express by Marriott offers a modern, clean design. The rooms range from 16.5 to 22 square meters, catering to various travelers, including business professionals and leisure groups. Marriott anticipates that the brand will thrive in locations where other brands may face development challenges.
Currently, City Express operates more than 17,000 rooms across Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Chile. Plans for expansion to Bolivia and Nicaragua are also in place.
