The suspension of the online service came after concerns were raised about the VFS outsourcing deal . Reports indicated the contract might not have been transparent, with VFS Global possibly earning up to $2.75 billion over 16 years if the deal had pushed through. Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court intervened, ordering the immigration authorities to restore the previous system.
In addition to resuming online visa applications, the government has launched a visa-free initiative for citizens of 35 countries, including India. This six-month policy is expected to drive tourist numbers up, allowing more people to explore the country’s scenic landscapes and rich culture.
