[Latest Travel News] Travelers seeking a blend of breathtaking scenery, culture, and adventure will find much to love about Sicily and Stromboli – two of Italy’s must-visit travel destinations. With summer in full swing and tourists flocking to Europe, one might wonder: is it safe to visit these destinations given the recent volcanic activities?

Warnings have been issued as Mount Etna and Stromboli volcanoes have become active, causing disruptions for travelers. Catania Airport, one of Sicily’s main international gateways, experienced delays due to Mount Etna’s recent eruption.

The active volcano, the highest in Europe, has shown an increase in activity over the past week. Meanwhile, Stromboli, located on a nearby Aeolian island, is also erupting and spewing lava into the sea.

Is it safe to travel to Sicily and Stromboli due to the volcanic eruptions?

The eruption of Mount Etna caused the cancellation of at least 90 outbound and inbound flights at Catania Airport, affecting around 15,000 passengers.

Italy’s Civil Protection Department has warned that increased activity from Mount Etna is not a one-time event . Locals and tourists are advised to follow civil protection authorities’ instructions broadcast through different media channels.

During eruptions, it’s crucial to avoid going to areas near the craters due to the risk of gas emissions and explosive phenomena.

Stromboli, famous for its dramatic volcanic activity that provides a mesmerizing spectacle, has also raised concerns. Evacuation plans are currently in place and the number of firefighters on the island was increased as a precaution.
